Westport Whiskey & Wine:

Tuesday, December 1, 7 PM: Clos du Val Napa Valley with Tom Conrad.  Unlike many of the other pioneering Napa Valley wineries, Clos Du Val has remained small and dedicated only to Napa Valley wines—a focus that has become even clearer in recent vintages. In fact, as part of its transition to making almost exclusively estate-grown wines, Clos Du Val made the bold decision to significantly reduce production, with overall Cabernet Sauvignon production cut almost in half.  While their wines are richer and more textural than in the past, they still have lovely acid and relatively modest alcohol levels of around 14%. They are wines of purity and balance. Reservations please, $20 per person.

Wednesday, December 2, 7 PM: d’Arenberg Winery from Australia with Rebecca Loewy.  Since 1912 the Osborn family have tended vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia. d’Arenberg is unique in that it is the only winery in Australia to use this age-old basket press method for white wines as well as reds. They believe that one of the advantages of basket pressing is cleaner juice, as it is partially filtered through the mass of pulp it drains through in the basket. This saves time in settling and clearing the juice, and brings the procedure much closer to how we like things – minimal interference which enables them to preserve quality.  Reservations please, $20 per person.

Thursday, December 3, 7 PM: Georges DuBoeuf Cru Beaujolais Tasting. In the wine world late fall is noted for the first releases of the current year’s vintage, better known as Beaujolais Nouveau. While that fresh juicy wine is considered fun to drink, it is that reminder that wines from the gamay grape can be truly lovely. Georges DuBoeuf has dedicated his career in elevating the profile of the Beaujolais region. We will be tasting some classic regional wines, all at great prices.  Reservations please, $20 per person.

Friday, December 4, 5 to 8 PM: Light Up the Village. We will be offering adult hot chocolate flavored with the new Ballotin Chocolate Whiskeys. Louisville-based Saloon Spirits LLC recently launched Ballotin Chocolate Whiskey in four flavors: Original Chocolate, Bourbon Ball, Caramel Turtle and Chocolate Mint. (Fun fact: A ballotin is a box, originating in Belgium, in which chocolates are sold.) All four flavors will be available to taste.

Tuesday, December 8, 7 PM: Bushmills Irish Whiskey with Paige Roubic. Getting to know Bushmills is like forging a friendship, whether it’s an old school pal or someone with the same love for quality Irish Whiskey, the results are the same – a bond as strong as brothers. Bushmills has been around for centuries so we know lasting relationships are worth the effort. And Black Bush is one of my favorite whiskeys period, Chris. Grab a seat and let’s taste. Reservations please, $15 per person.

This portfolio is truly global and we will be sampling great reds from Washington: Col Solare; California: Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Conn Creek; Italy:  Antinori, Prunotto; Spain: Torres; and maybe a few other surprises. Reservations please, $25 per person.

Thursday, December 17, 7 PM: Domaine du Pegau is an old name in Chateauneuf du Pape. The Feraud family is able to trace their roots all the way back to the middle of the 17th century in the Southern Rhone Valley. That is when the ancestors of the Feraud family first planted grape vines next to their olive trees and other assorted fruit trees in Chateauneuf du Pape. They are fervent proponents of the most traditional wine-making style of Provence and Rhone. It is widely regarded as one of the leading producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Reservations please, $20 per person.

Tuesday, December 22, 7 PM: Chris presents, “My Favorite Things – A Spirited Selection.” When asked what is my favorite, this or that, it is always a challenge to narrow that to one item. I truly enjoy a spectrum of spirits and we will try to reflect that in this tasting. There will be whiskey: bourbon, Irish & scotch. Rum, brandy & tequila, not out of the question. But it will be tasty and fun. Reserve your seat and come along for the ride. $20 per person.

Thursday, December 24, 9 AM to 6 PM: Christmas Eve Hours.
